Apple crumble

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, especially during the stressful holiday season. But don’t just treat yourself to a healthy snack; crumble it up for a healthy dessert. With oats and nuts for a vitamin packed sweet treat, this apple crumble will be the highlight of your family feast.

Ingredients:

1 stick butter, melted

1 1/2 cups of quick oats

1/2 cup whole meal flour

¾ cup butter

2/3 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped

pinch of salt (for both apple mixture and crumble topping)

7 apples, chopped (skin on)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup honey (plus 1/4 cup to toss apples in)

1 tsp. vanilla


Instructions:

1. In a round cake pan, toss apples into the cinnamon, 1/4 cup honey, salt and lemon juice.


2. In a separate bowl, combine all other ingredients, mixing with your hands to form crumbs


3. Sprinkle crumble mixture over apples


4. Bake at 350oF for about 50 mins
